Stop Windows 11 Upgrade

1. Type regedit in the Run windows and hit OK to open Registry Editor.

2.  Navigate to the following path, right-click it > New > DWORD(32-bit) Value. Then, double-click the new registry settings, name it TargetReleaseVersion and set its value to 1. 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Block Windows 11 update from Installing

To Block Windows 11 update, see the steps below, which are explained later on step by step. This would also work even if you have clicked Download and install, or rolled back to Windows 10 and it keeps trying again.

    Right-click Start and select Windows Powershell(admin).
    Press Yes when Prompted.
    Type cmd.exe to open Command Prompt inside Powershell.

Command 1:

Paste the following command to enable Targeted Updates to a specific release:

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /v TargetReleaseversion /t REG_DWORD /d 1

When it is done, enter command 2 which varies by the current version of Windows 10.

Command 2:

If you are on Windows 10 version 21H2, use the command below.

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /v TargetReleaseversionInfo /t REG_SZ /d 21H2 

If you are on Windows 10 version 21H1, use the command below.

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /v TargetReleaseversionInfo /t REG_SZ /d 21H1

If you are on Windows 10 version 22H2, use the command below.

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /v TargetReleaseversionInfo /t REG_SZ /d 22H2 

If you are on Windows 10 version 22H1, use the command below.

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /v TargetReleaseversionInfo /t REG_SZ /d 22H1



You should see the “The command completed successfully” message when you enter the commands.
